Information about our Direct Access Scheme (DAS) courses

2 Day CourseLightning Motorcycle Training direct access scheme

This course is for very experienced riders who have already completed their CBT. Both days are conducted on a motorcycle over 600cc to get you used to handling a bigger machine. We have large training areas where we can practise full speed Module 1 manoeuvres. The course culminates in your Motorcycle Test - Module 1 on the morning of the second day and your Motorcycle Test - Module 2 in the afternoon.

Alternatively we offer a 2 day course, again for very experienced riders, who do not have a current CBT. The first day of training - CBT/Mod Skills Day 1 will cover both the CBT and all the training to pass the Module 1 Motorcycle Test. The second day is the same as above and again this will be done on a 600cc motorcycle.

3 Day Course

This is for the experienced riders only and assumes you already know how to ride a geared motorcycle. This course will begin with a CBT/Mod Skills Day 1, which will be conducted on a 600cc machine, teaching you all you need to know for your Module 1 Motorcycle Test as well as covering the CBT. We have large training areas where we can practise full speed Module 1 manoeuvres. Mod Skills Day 2 has a small amount of time in the morning to warm up for the Module 1 Motorcycle Test which will be done mid-morning, the remainder of the day is preparing you for the Module 2 Motorcycle Test. The final day - Mod Skills Day 3 is spent entirely on the road and is the final preparation prior to taking you Module 2 Motorcycle Test in the afternoon. Generally we recommend that this day is done three working days after Mod Skills Day 2.

4 Day Course

Once you have passed CBT, you may then decide to take a full licence. This course is structured to suit somebody who has taken a CBT but has only limited experience. The first day of training will be done on a 125cc motorcycle and is called a Roadrider. This is a fully structured course that covers all the elements of the road giving you all the practical experience of dealing with hill starts, roundabouts, junctions, one way streets etc. in considerably more detail than the CBT. The second day is Mod Skills Day 1 where you will be introduced to a 600cc motorcycle and go through all the training required for the Module 1 Motorcycle Test; a considerable amount of this day will be in the training area.

Alternatively if you have had some previous experience but perhaps a long time ago then we can do a 4 day course that starts with a CBT instead of a Roadrider. The CBT will be done on a 125cc motorcycle.

5-Day Course

This course is suitable for a novice rider. The first day will be your CBT, which we like you to take one week before the start of the other four days. This is so that should you need further training on your CBT, you will have time to complete it without interfering with the rest of your course. The second day of training will also be done on a 125cc motorcycle and is called a Roadrider. This is a fully structured course that covers all the elements of the road giving you all the practical experience of dealing with hill starts, roundabouts, junctions, one way streets etc. in considerably more detail than the CBT. The third day is Mod Skills Day 1 where you will be introduced to a 600cc motorcycle and go through all the training required for the Module 1 Motorcycle Test; a considerable amount of this day will be in the training area.

Prices include tuition, CBT, motorcycle hire, fuel, insurance and equipment.

All our courses offer a Guaranteed Pass Scheme, which means that if you do not pass your Motorcycle Test - Module 1 or 2, we make a priority of getting you another test as early as the law allows. Further training is done at our normal daily rate with a 30% discount. While we will do our best to get you another test as quickly as possible please bear in mind that you must wait ten working days by law before you can retake the Motorcycle Test - Module 2 and three working days for the Motorcycle Test - Module 1. 9 out 10 people who have taken a test through Lightning Motorcycle Training now hold a full licence.
