CBT Consultation

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) have made a raft of proposals to modernize CBT. CBT was first introduced in 1990, and while it has undergone some changes since that time, there are some fundamental issues that require modernizing.

The principal proposed changes are:

  • Having a separate certificate for geared and automatic CBT's
  • Losing a CBT certificate if the licence holder receives six penalty points (Provisional Licences only)
  • A revised (and hopefully improved) course structure
  • The need to take a Theory Test before taking the CBT

Other changes relate to instructor qualifications and use of modern technology & IT.
